The Story Behind "BETTER TAKE OFF YOUR HAT"

We’ve all watched it happen……

The National Anthem begins at a sporting event, or a holiday gathering…and there’s always one guy nearby who:
          a) won’t stop talking
          b) refuses to stand up
          c) won’t remove his hat

Through years of performing "The Star Spangled Banner", Ronnie tried to ignore that guy.
One night…he couldn’t ignore him anymore.

Stopping in the middle of the song, he quieted the band and asked the crowd for silence.
He pointed to the oblivious patron and said over the PA system:
"Boy, when you hear those words Oh Say Can You See…… you better take off your hat"

The crowd erupted
The oblivious patron complied
and the song “Better Take Off Your Hat” was born.

Since then, it’s been a favorite on MySpace, generating over 20,000 hits.
With its straight forward, controversial and sometimes tongue-in-cheek lyrics, the song resonated with a wide range of people…especially with veterans and military families.
